Stamford is a coastal town bounded on the north by Westchester County, New York; on the west by Greenwich; on the east by New Canaan and Darien, and on the south by Long Island Sound.In 1640 Andrew Ward and Robert Coe, representing a group of settlers from Wethersfield, CT purchased a large tract of land on the banks of the Rippowam River from the New Haven colony. Each man in the group was expected to pay thirty-three pounds of produce as soon as possible.
